About me
I am Vinodhini Subramaniyam Ph.D., a researcher and a poet, applying for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship under your mentorship at IIT Madras. I have completed my Ph.D. in Science and Humanities (Physics) in the Department of Nanoscience and Technology. I am currently (July 2025) relieved from a Post-Doctoral Fellow position at Karpagam Academy of Higher Education, Coimbatore, India, and previously worked as an Assistant Professor of Physics at Karpagam College of Engineering, Coimbatore, India.
Interests: I have over 7 years of experience in an academic wet chemical research laboratory, acquiring knowledge in a broad field of materials science. Majorly, I worked on the synthesis, modification, and characterization of advanced materials. During my PhD, I tried MOFs and developed Zr-based CPs through the solvothermal method with polar amino acid-based ligands towards the application of heavy metal ions adsorption from water resources. Utilizing the L-tyrosine ligand, I achieved a partially amorphous CP that removes Cu2+ ions up to a maximum adsorption of 125 mg/g with a removal efficiency of 50% from real (canal, bore-well, and tap) water. Apart from the porous materials, synthesized and characterized nanomaterials, conducting polymer (polyaniline), composite materials, and alloys for anti-corrosion prevention. In that regard, I gained experience in mentoring final-year students for their annual projects. I have hands-on experience in several spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, performed consultancy in characterization using UV, PL, PSA, FTIR, pXRD, EWS, and optical microscope, which resulted in an annual revenue of 43,560 INR to the organization, and demonstrated data analysis in BET-N2 adsorption-desorption, SEM, EDAX, TG-DTA, and ICP-OES methods. During my post-doctoral period, I have synthesized MOFs for energy applications, which are under the characterization phase. I collaboratively worked with composite materials for the catalytic degradation of drugs and dyes. It is suggestive from your research profile that you are excelling in the preparation of MOFs and CPs and using them for energy and environmental applications, which is very relevant to my current research interest and experience. I am interested in learning advanced knowledge on MOFs and CPs from your expertise and experience. I have developed communication skills in English (oral and written) while teaching the experimental procedures and technical contents to around 1500 students in the laboratory training sessions. I collaborated with national and international research teams with a multidisciplinary background and established insights into the materials science field. The research results are summarized and published in 14 peer-reviewed international quality journal publications and 2 book chapters. I have prepared the research proposal for the government funding agencies in India.
