About me
I am an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at The New College, Chennai, with over four years of higher education teaching experience. Having earned my Ph.D., my research focuses on fluorescent chemosensors, live-cell bioimaging, molecular logic gates, and DFT calculations. I actively publish, serve as a peer reviewer for ChemComm, and hold life memberships in ACT and MRSI. I also mentor M.Sc. students and utilize my background in graphic design to create research figures and presentations.
Interests: My research interests lie at the interface of organic synthesis, photophysics, and chemical biology, with a primary focus on the design, development, and application of advanced visual sensing materials. Specifically, my work centers on the synthesis of novel fluorescent chemosensors, including guanidine-based systems, tailored for the highly selective "turn on" fluorescent sensing of metal cations such as zinc (\text{Zn}^{2+}). I am deeply involved in evaluating these chemosensors through photophysical analysis and exploring their practical utility in the bioimaging of live cells, utilizing model organisms like zebrafish larvae. My research methodology integrates experimental laboratory work with theoretical insights gained from Density Functional Theory (\text{DFT}) calculations. Additionally, my academic interests extend to the design of molecular logic gates and the broader field of medicinal chemistry, where I have contributed to literature surrounding drug discovery and development in geriatric diabetes care.
