About me

I would contribute to make a system that would function and cater to planning for necessary development; regular updating of research methodology. My flair and experience for technical and administrative writing in academic and professional environment in Government and private sector is thought by me as a key factor for ascertaining my suitability for the role in an endeavour for execution of multi-disciplinary research with reoriented approach.

Interests: My proposed role as research professional of the institute will be to inculcate the practice of developing interface between the domain knowledge in relevant field by developing subroutines, process models in the relevant domain by incorporating the spatial component into the system with an conviction to perform the role that calls for giving importance to application of research encapsulating both theoretical, experimental and computational research. I have a proposal for integrated evaluation through newer techniques formulated against sustainable backdrop involving: (a) Creating value added output products generated using domain knowledge into the inter-disciplinary system. (b) Demonstration on use of newer concepts and approaches into various engineer/scientific support tasks and link it as an integral part of the project life cycle to ensure widespread proliferation.

RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY SOLUTION

DETAILS OF RESEARCH/CONSULTANCY RESEARCH-1 a) Surface water quality and its environmental relevance form an important issue of study. This was done by carrying out water quality parameters modeling using remote sensing data by establishing area specific correlation between various surface water quality parameters such as Total Suspended solids, turbidity and other parameters with spectral reflectance. b) The coordinates of spectral signatures at sampled locations was obtained using differential GPS and temporal/spectral correlation was established. The regression equation relating water quality with spectral radiance was also established in the study.RESEARCH-2 Remote sensing data acquired on a particular crop phenological period for both Rabi and Kharif seasons was used to determine area of different crops in the watershed on the date in which the satellite data is acquired. The remote sensing based different crop spectral indices such as Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Ratio Vegetation Index (RVI), Perpendicular Vegetation Index (PVI) and Soil adjusted vegetation index (SAVI) was considered as parameter for crop evaluation in the irrigated command since these spectral indices values are expected to be different for different crops. The spectral crop indices was computed for crops through sampling process for which well distributed samples consisting of transect of pixels covering the crop type is collected to compute the spectral crop indices after converting the pixel values into spectral radiance in visible red and near infrared region. The sampling was resorted for each crop type after its identification on the ground as well as on the satellite data The crop indices was utilized to identify the possibility of crop identification and to model for evapo-transpiration at different crop phenological periods. RESEARCH-3 The assessment of climate change was carried out by analyzing rainfall variability, temporal climatic changes, spatial interpolation of climatic factors and climatic risking. The climatic changes have consequences on precipitation pattern changes, temperature variation, crop growing season alteration, increase of sea ice and grounded ice sheets. This has implications on ecosystem, human health, settlement and agriculture. Some of the repercussions attributed to temperature and precipitation increase was proposed along with its repercussions on extreme Precipitation events like floods and droughts, agricultural yield and negative impact on subsistence agriculture. Hyper spectral remote sensing data and NOAA data was utilized since it can help in identification of ocean related parameters.RESEARCH-4 The snow melt runoff due to melting of glaciers and consequent reduction in its area is considered as a negative impact of climatic change. The snow covered area once mapped can be integrated with altitude and other meteorological data into various models for quantifying the snow melt runoff arriving into the river or oceans. In this context a model was established linking all the interrelated parameters. RESEARCH-5 The irrigated command area requires specification of frequency of irrigation based upon the evapo-transpiration, field capacity of soil, depth of root zone and soil density. In this context estimation of the amount of irrigation water was done along with frequency of irrigation for proper scheduling. The remote sensing multi-temporal data for the purpose was used to enable computation of number of days for each irrigation water application to the respective crop groups in different watersheds by knowing the base period of different crops. In this context it is possible to obtain number of times irrigation water is to be applied along with quantity of irrigation water needed for each application. RESEARCH-6 The runoff estimation utilizing the soil conservation services (SCS) model using LISS-III remote sensing data was used to applied groups of automatically delineated micro-watersheds each group containing about two to six micro-watersheds. The various vector layers like the slope/aspect, land-use/land-cover, runoff potential, soil erosion potential and the associated attribute information governing the criteria for different conservation structures was evolved and integrated in the spatial analysis module in GIS environment to evolve derived layers indicating the locations of conservation sites meeting the requisite criteria.RESEARCH-7 Analytical Hierarchy Process models were used to obtain the reliability estimates for the chosen hydrological conservation sites. In this context multi-criteria weighted analysis was applied the chosen hydrological planning area utilizing different parameters to ascertain its reliability. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE Used state of art equipments like GPS (Mapping GPS Trimble 4600LS Control GPS and Trimble Path finder GIS receiver), Trimble,Topcon and Sokkia Total Station etc; for various Survey work. GPS Surveys using differential positioning and post processing of GPS data for Topographical Mapping , Corridor Planning, Highway alignment work including control and location survey has been done by me. I have coordinated and planned work on GPS control and GPS mapping for collecting data regarding road network, navigation of map coordinates in road projects. I have used extensively Inroad select CAD software to process data downloaded from Total Station for carrying out Road alignment/ re-alignment tasks. I used the Inroad select CAD S/W to process Survey data collected from Total Station pertaining to Rowing Channel 2.5Km long and 100m wide. In this project, earthwork cut and fills at various chainages at different formation levels and Channel cross section templates were arrived using the Software capabilities. Another project on similar lines was executed by me to align a Class-40 road in the Himalayan region. Specification for the military surveys is as per Survey of India norms. Has worked in two projects on durability of concrete for M/s ACC and Ministry of Water Resources.I have carried out independently GIS project in GEOMEDIA on Earthquake Management relating to planning of relief and to study vulnerability of existing buildings in the event of earthquake. I have also used GEOMEDIA S/W for automated route alignment between two destinations. I am involved in construction and maintenance of MES construction projects. 2. I have carried out hydrological modeling for estimating peak runoff to enable hydraulic design of conservation structures in watersheds surrounding Pune. Watershed prioritization based upon erosion potential has been carried out by me using different soil erosion models. Hydrological rainwater harvesting structures needs to be situated at appropriate locations to conserve water to meet power requirements. In this context integrated evaluation of terrain parameters in 2D and 3D mode has been carried out by me using GIS techniques. The GIS techniques utilized raster and vector based module to arrive at suitable sites for hydrological water conservation structures. 3. Hydrological evaluation of sites for bridges/culverts in Himalayan and plain areas has been carried out by me to carry out hydrological designs. GPS coordinate transformation activities, work on validating Total station data with GPS data and post processing in Microstation, GIS, ARCGIS Softwares4.
