About me

I am a Professor of Chemistry with over 25 years of experience in academia, research, and industry. My expertise includes crystal engineering, solid-state chemistry, natural products, and drug design. Through research, publications, patents, and student mentoring, I help learners develop strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for successful careers in academia, research, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Interests: My research interests lie at the intersection of crystal engineering, solid-state chemistry, natural products chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, and molecular modeling. Over the past two decades, I have focused on understanding and manipulating molecular interactions in the solid state to design novel crystalline materials with improved physicochemical and therapeutic properties. A major area of my research involves the development of pharmaceutical cocrystals, molecular salts, coamorphous systems, and inclusion complexes aimed at enhancing the solubility, dissolution rate, permeability, stability, and bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients. By combining crystallographic investigations with advanced analytical and computational techniques, I seek to establish structure–property relationships that facilitate rational design of superior drug formulations. My work also extends to natural products and nutraceutical research, particularly the isolation, characterization, standardization, and formulation of bioactive compounds derived from medicinal plants. Current efforts focus on improving the solubility and therapeutic efficacy of herbal bioactives through crystal engineering and formulation strategies. In addition, I have a strong interest in molecular modeling, drug design, and computational chemistry, employing in silico approaches such as QSAR, molecular docking, and topological modeling to understand biological activity and support drug discovery efforts. Another important dimension of my research is the development and validation of analytical methodologies using advanced instrumental techniques including PXRD, DSC/TGA, FT-IR, HPLC, LC-MS/MS, and spectroscopic methods for characterization of pharmaceutical and natural product systems. Through an integrated experimental and computational approach, my long-term objective is to contribute to the development of innovative pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products, advance crystal engineering as a tool for drug optimization, and mentor the next generation of researchers in interdisciplinary chemical sciences.
